The Audi A2 e-tron marks the resurrection of the iconic A2 badge, reborn as an entry-level compact electric hatchback. Positioned directly beneath the Q4 e-tron, it serves as the most accessible fully electric gateway into the Audi lineup. Built on an updated evolution of the Volkswagen Group MEB platform, it blends an ultra-efficient aerodynamic shape with premium urban mobility, targeting competitors such as the Renault Megane E-Tech, Volkswagen ID.3 Neo, and Volvo EX30.
Design
Echoing the distinct egg-like silhouette of its predecessor, the exterior prioritises absolute aerodynamic efficiency, achieving a drag coefficient of just 0.24. The front fascia is defined by a low, rounded nose featuring an active cool-air intake, subtle air curtains, and slim split LED headlights that mirror Audi's contemporary SUV design language. Smooth body sides are accented by specialised gap reducers between the wheels and bodywork alongside aerodynamically closed wheel designs to minimise air turbulence. At the rear, a high tail section with a sharply defined spoiler edge breaks off airflow to maintain stability and cut drag.
Interior
The cabin layout focuses on maximal spatial efficiency within a compact footprint. A minimalist dashboard houses Audi's latest digital stage, featuring a high-definition instrument display paired with a central touchscreen infotainment system running updated MMI software. Premium, sustainable upholstery replace traditional leathers throughout. Ergonomics remain a highlight, offering an elevated seating position that mirrors the original A2 for improved forward visibility, paired with an open-plan center console setup that maximizes knee and leg room for front occupants.
Performance & Powertrains
Power comes from a rear-mounted APP 350 permanent magnet electric motor generating 140 kW, driving the rear wheels. Energy is either supplied by a 58kWh LFP battery pack, or a larger 79kWh battery. Audi claims a benchmark energy consumption of 12.8 kWh per 100 km when equipped with the optional efficiency package, delivering a predicted range of 342 to 403 miles, depending on the battery. DC fast charging is supported up to 183 kW, enabling a 10 to 80% charge in approximately 26 minutes. The system also incorporates bi-directional vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.
Practicality
By engineering the vehicle around an dedicated electric platform with a long wheelbase and short overhangs, interior space approaches that of cars from the segment above. The boot offers a flat loading bay with underfloor cable storage, providing ample room for everyday luggage and shopping. Rear passenger accommodation benefits from a flat floor architecture, offering comfortable headroom and legroom for two adults or three children. Clever storage solutions include modular door bins, sliding cup holders, and multi-functional hooks throughout the cabin.
Buying
The Audi A2 e-tron is scheduled for its full global unveiling in autumn 2026, with order books opening shortly after and customer deliveries starting in early 2027. Expected prices will begin at approximately £35,000 for the base trim level. Standard equipment across the range will include the digital cockpit, full LED lighting, climate control, and comprehensive driver assistance systems. Trim levels are anticipated to follow Audi's traditional Sport, S Line, and Black Edition hierarchy, with an optional dedicated Efficiency Package offered to unlock maximum aerodynamic tweaks and range.
