Overview

The Honda Super-N is a super compact, five-door A-segment electric hatchback designed to inject genuine character and affordability into the entry-level urban EV market. Stepping into the shoes of the discontinued Honda e, the Super-N is heavily inspired by Japan's iconic Kei cars, yet it has been widened and re-engineered specifically for European and British roads. Positioned directly against rivals like the Leapmotor T03, Abarth 500e, and Renault Twingo E-Tech, the Super-N focuses on lightweight agility, everyday urban usability, and a cheap entry point, avoiding the high pricing that limited its predecessor.

Design

The exterior styling of the Super-N leans heavily into retro-modern minimalism, paying homage to the boxy, aggressive stance of the legendary 1980s Honda City Turbo II. It features a punchy, upright silhouette complemented by flared wheel arches, a wider track, and distinctive aero ducts that guide airflow around the front bumper to improve stability. Signature round LED headlights give the vehicle a friendly and sporty face, framing a backed-off gloss black grille that houses the central, front charging port. Standard versions sit confidently on sporty 15-inch alloy wheels, while customization packages offer a contrasting gloss black roof, a rear roof spoiler, and vibrant dual-tone paint options.

Interior

Inside, the cabin embraces Honda's 'Man-Maximum, Machine-Minimum' philosophy, opting for a clean,  distraction-free dashboard layout. The materials prioritize sustainability, using premium finishes constructed from recycled plastics and repurposed Honda clothing fabrics, accented by active blue stitching. Technology is handled via an intuitive central infotainment screen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paired with a dedicated digital driver's display. Standard equipment is surprisingly generous, featuring a heated steering wheel, heated front sport seats with enhanced lateral bolstering, climate control, and an 8-speaker Bose premium sound system. Ambient lighting illuminates the cockpit, shifting to a deep purple glow when the Boost are engaged.

Performance & Powertrains

The FWD Super-N uses an integrated, lightweight e-Axle powered by a thin 29.6 kWh battery, resulting in a low kerb weight of just 1,097 kg. In standard driving modes, the electric motor produces 63 bhp, enabling a 0-62 mph time of 14.5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 84 mph. Pressing the Boost button on the steering wheel temporarily unleashes the motor's full potential, lifting output to 94 bhp (70 kW) and slashing the 0-62 mph sprint to 10.0 seconds - still very long for a performance-orientated EV. This is paired with Active Sound Control and a simulated 7-speed virtual transmission with paddle shifters that mimic the stepped shifts and engine braking of a petrol hot hatch. The range stands at just 128 miles, making it primarily a second vehicle or commuter car. Charging the battery from 15% to 80% takes approximately 30 minutes when connected to a public rapid charger with the maximum DC charging rate of just 50 kW.

Practicality

Despite measuring an ultra-compact 3,599 mm in length and 1,573 mm in width, the boxy proportions and high roofline ensure generous headroom and legroom for four adults. Practicality is enhanced by Honda's versatile Magic Seats system in the rear, which allows the seat bases to flip upward to accommodate tall cargo or fold entirely flat into the floor. Luggage space starts at a modest 162 litres with the rear seats in place, but it expands to a competitive 967 litres with the seats folded down. Additional cabin storage includes a higher, high-visibility seating position, an uncluttered lower center console, and dedicated grocery bag hooks integrated into the rear seat bases.

Buying

The Honda Super-N is available in a single trim level priced at £18,025. While its 128-mile range restricts its viability for anything other than short-distance commuting, its sub-£20k price point and level of standard equipment offer an odd value proposition for urban commuters. EV Hub Recommended Configuration is opting for the two-tone paint configuration featuring a rear spoiler to deliver ultimate retro-futuristic character without compromising its affordable price.
