The Audi Q6 e-tron represents a vital step forward, positioning itself as a premium mid-sized electric SUV that sits directly above the smaller Q4 e-tron. It is the very first Audi model to be built upon the Premium Platform Electric architecture, a dedicated EV foundation co-developed with Porsche. This premium lineage allows the Q6 e-tron to deliver advanced technology, ultra-rapid charging capabilities, and competitive range figures. It serves as a direct competitor to established premium electric SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric, and the Porsche Macan Electric.

Design

Embracing a confident and athletic stance, the exterior design of the Q6 e-tron is full of muscular proportions, high shoulder line, and extended sideline above the wheels. The signature Audi Singleframe grille is closed off and inverted, sidelined by a striking split-headlight design. The slim upper units house customizable digital OLED daytime running lights, while the main matrix beams are tucked lower down into the bumper. Along the sides, black lower door inlays visually break up the body. The rear features a prominent, continuous light strip using second-generation digital OLED technology that can display dynamic warning symbols to traffic following behind.

Interior

The cabin introduced a shift in Audi's interior design, centered around a curved panoramic display. This setup merges an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, both high-resolution OLED panels. Higher specification variants can also add a 10.9-inch display for the front passenger, complete with an automatic privacy mode to prevent driver getting distracted. Material quality across the upper surfaces feels premium, featuring soft-wrapped fabrics with contrast stitching and brushed aluminium inlays, though some lower dashboard plastics feel slightly too cheap for a vehicle at this price point. The infotainment architecture runs on an Android Automotive OS, featuring an updated voice assistant boosted by ChatGPT and a dynamic light strip that can show vehicle status and charging information.

Performance & Powertrains

The Q6 e-tron lineup uses two distinct battery configurations utilizing an advanced 800-volt electrical setup. The entry-level variant features a 83kWh battery coupled to a single RWD motor for 252 hp, which increases to 292 hp under launch control, and a range of 326 miles. The mid-tier Performance model upgrades to a larger 100 kWh battery pack and a 306 hp rear motor (326 hp with launch control), enabling a 0-62 mph sprint in 6.6 seconds and delivering a range of 393 miles. The dual-motor 'Quattro' version introduces all-wheel drive, putting out a combined 388 hp (428 hp with launch control) to reach 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds while maintaining a range of 387 miles. DC rapid charging speeds are great; the smaller battery handles up to 225 kW, while the larger pack peaks at 260 kW, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 21 minutes. On the road, the standard air suspension setup filters out severe road imperfections effortlessly on motorways, though the vehicle's hefty 2.3-tonne kerb weight compromises agility on twisty B-roads, where the steering can feel overly remote.

Practicality

Built on a bespoke EV platform, the Q6 e-tron offers a flat floor that maximizes passenger space. Rear legroom and headroom are excellent, accommodating taller adults comfortably. Storage options are plentiful throughout the cabin, completed by a substantial 526-litre boot that expands up to 1,529 litres when the 40:20:40 split rear seats are folded completely flat. Audi has included a 64-litre frunk, which is ideally sized for storing charging cables. It also excels as a tow vehicle, offering a maximum braked towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg.

Pricing for the Audi Q6 e-tron starts at £61,315 for the entry-level 83kWh model, with the larger-battery variants only lightly more at £64,065. The trim levels are structured across Sport, S Line, Black Edition, and the flagship Vorsprung specification. Standard Sport models are highly equipped, featuring 19-inch alloy wheels, leather sports seats, a heated steering wheel, a 360-degree parking camera, and a standard efficiency-boosting heat pump. Upgrading to S line adds sportier bumpers and 20-inch wheels, while Black Edition introduces 21-inch wheels and a dark exterior styling package. The top-tier Vorsprung adds front passenger display and a Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system with headrest speakers.
