Learn what the score given to each car and van means.

How is it measured?

Each electric car gets judged by a five-pillar system that reflects performance in the real world. Instead of believing everything carmakers say, we consider each car's performance relative to its competitors in the market in 5 categories:
  • Efficiency & Charging: Real-world range, energy consumption, charging speeds, and charging times
  • Value & Running Costs: Starting price, equipment levels, and long-term running costs relative to rivals.
  • Practicality & Usability: Passenger space, boot capacity, extra storage, and ergonomic usability. For commercial vans, this measures payload capacity, cargo volume, and loading heights.
  • Interior & Technology: Cabin build quality, material durability, touchscreen responsiveness, physical controls, driver assistance systems, and smartphone integration.
  • Performance & Driving Dynamics: Acceleration, ride comfort, cabin noise, control, and regenerative braking.

Each category is scored out of 10, and these ratings are combined to produce an Overall EV Hub Score.

What does it mean?

  • 0.0 – 4.0 | Avoid - Severely outclassed by competitors across as range, efficiency, or value.
  • 4.5 – 5.5 | Lacking - Compromised in critical areas. It may serve niche needs but falls short in many places.
  • 6.0 – 7.0 | Average - A solid, dependable choice with no major flaws, though it's nothing to shout about.
  • 7.5 – 8.0 | Good - Above average. Competitive in its class with strong efficiency, practical tech, or great value.
  • 8.5 – 10.0 | Outstanding - Class-leading. Represents the benchmark for the segment in engineering, usability, and overall execution.
