The newly updated Audi Q4 e-tron family reinforces its position in the highly competitive premium compact electric SUV market. Sharing the Volkswagen Group MEB platform with siblings like the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq, this mid-life refresh elevates the Q4 e-tron above mainstream rivals by focusing heavily on improved efficiency, higher quality, and standard technology. Available in both a traditional upright SUV body style and a sleeker, coupe-styled Sportback variant, the model benefits from structural upgrades that improve driving range, charging speed, and software capability to rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQA and Genesis GV60.
Design
Audi has sharpened the exterior of the updated Q4 e-tron, ensuring it maintains a muscular and commanding presence on the road. The revised front fascia features the new corporate 2D-look dark grey Audi rings integrated seamlessly into the closed-off Singleframe grille, flanked by newly available intelligent Matrix LED headlights that offer four distinct digital light signatures configurable via the infotainment system. Its dynamic lines and a wide stance are helped by expanded paint options, including newly introduced metallic finishes such as Plasma Blue, Volcano Grey, and Sage Green, complemented by a choice of five entirely new wheel designs. The rear features upgraded second-generation digital OLED tail-lights connected by a functional full-width light bar, which uses a proximity warning system that illuminates if other road users approach the stationary vehicle too closely.
Interior
The cabin has undergone a significant architectural transformation to create an immersive, driver-focused digital environment known as the Digital Stage. The focus point of the interior is a new panoramic curved display that houses an 11.9-inch digital driver's display and expansive 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while a separate 12.0-inch passenger standby display is introduced on top trims. A redesigned floating center console houses dual 15-watt cooled wireless smartphone chargers, freeing up open space below for extra storage. Audi has added a new One Connected Infotainment system that features native ChatGPT integration, alongside dynamic interaction ambient lighting that sweeps across the dashboard.
Performance & Powertrains
The core of the Q4 e-tron has been heavily revised, introducing an incredibly efficient motor on the rear axle and updated power electronics. The entry-level battery size stands at 63kWh, while the larger variants use an 82kWh battery pack pack featuring optimized cell chemistry. That gives the car 280 or 368 miles of range respectively. Peak DC rapid-charging capabilities have risen to 185 kW for both models, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge to be completed in roughly 24 to 27 minutes. For the first time, the Q4 e-tron introduces bidirectional Vehicle-to-Load functionality, capable of exporting 2.3 kW of electrical power via a 230-volt domestic socket located within the luggage compartment or through an external charging port adapter.
Practicality
Despite compact exterior dimensions, the packaging of the dedicated electric platform ensures the Q4 e-tron maximizes interior room, delivering passenger space comparable to larger SUVs. Rear-seat occupants benefit from a flat floor, providing excellent legroom and headroom even in the sloping roofline, Sportback model. The SUV variant provides a very functional 520-litre boot capacity with all seats upright, which expands significantly to 1,490 litres when the 40:20:40 split-folding rear bench is folded flat. Practicality is further enhanced by an electric tailgate included as standard equipment across the range.
Buying
The updated Audi Q4 e-tron range will start from £46,955 for the standard SUV body style, while the more aerodynamic Sportback model will start at £48,855. Core trim specifications will likely follow Audi's established trim levels, advancing through the Sport, the visually sharper S Line, a potential stealth-themed Black Edition, and the luxury-focused Vorsprung edition. The EV Hub recommended configuration will be the Audi Q4 Sport SUV with the larger 82kWh battery, offering the strongest value. This combines the highly efficient 282 bhp rear-mounted motor to secure the maximum usable 337-mile WLTP driving range, while avoiding the steep prices associated with the higher trim levels.
