Overview

The Peugeot e-LEGEND is a fully electric coupe concept created to demonstrate that high-tech autonomous mobility can exist alongside emotional design and dynamic driving pleasure. Positioned as a vision for an optimistic automotive future, it reimagines the iconic 1968 Peugeot 504 Coupé as a zero-emission GT.

Key Features

  • A modern two-door coupé silhouette directly inspired by the classic Peugeot 504 Coupé, featuring twin headlight optics, black front bumper blades, and three-claw tail lights.
  • Fully retractable steering wheel that hides beneath the dashboard in autonomous driving modes to reveal a massive, unobstructed central display.
  • 16 digital displays of varying sizes, including a curved 49-inch main display, 29-inch door-mounted screens, and 12-inch screens built into the sun visors.
  • Four Versatile Driving Modes split into two autonomous modes (Soft and Sharp) and two manual driving modes (Legend and Boost).
  • AI-Powered Voice Assistant developed in partnership with SoundHound, allowing voice commands in 17 languages for driving modes, infotainment, and opening the electric doors.
  • Induction Charging alongside ultra-fast wired charging options.

Design & Interior

The exterior combines sharp, athletic proportions with retro cues. Measuring 4.65 metres long, 1.93 metres wide, and 1.37 metres tall with a 2.69-metre wheelbase, it presents a traditional grand tourer stance. The body is finished in a champagne grey paint that shifts depending on the light, framed by slim roof pillars, an arched rear cabin, and a floating front grille bearing Peugeot's historic illuminated lion badge.

Inside, the cabin bridges past and future with bright blue silk velvet upholstery paired with warm paldao wood accents across the dash and doors. The layout adapts to the driving mode: in manual setups, driver-focused gauges appear on digital pods, while in autonomous modes, the steer-by-wire yoke retracts into the dash, the front seats recline, and armrests deploy to reveal integrated wireless smartphone chargers.

Other Technical Specifications

Powering the e-LEGEND is a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive electric powertrain generating 340 kW and 800 Nm of torque. This enables acceleration from 0-62 mph in under 4 seconds, continuing to a top speed of 137 mph. Energy is supplied by a 100 kWh battery, providing a driving range of 373 miles. Rapid DC charging capability allows the battery to gain up to 310 miles of range in approximately 25 minutes.

Production Plans

Despite overwhelming public praise and an online petition reaching over 50,000 signatures urging production, Peugeot confirmed that the e-LEGEND will remain strictly a design study and technological manifesto. Former Peugeot leadership cited estimated development costs of €250 million, alongside the requirement to sell at least 20,000 units at an estimated £70,000 (€80,000) to achieve financial viability. While the concept itself will not reach showroom floors, key elements such as the illuminated lion crest, signature three-claw lighting, retro-inspired badging, and i-Cockpit technology have directly influenced new Peugeot production models.
