Overview

The Kia EV6 GT sits at the absolute pinnacle of the South Korean brand's EV6 line-up, transforming a normal family crossover into a rapid performance flagship. Built upon Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated E-GMP architecture, the GT targets established premium sports saloons and high-end electric performance models like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and Tesla Model Y Performance. It successfully alters the perception of the brand by offering hypercar-rivalling straight-line pace combined with daily usability, carving out a unique market position as a practical 5-door crossover that can out-accelerate exotic machinery while retaining a mainstream badge.

Design

The exterior design language of the EV6 GT introduces a muscular, low-slung aesthetic that blurs the boundaries between a traditional hot hatchback and a sleek crossover. Up front, the vehicle features aggressive styling elements including a revised front bumper that optimises airflow, flanked by striking adaptive LED headlights. Flared wheel arches frame massive 21-inch alloy wheels, through which bright neon green brake calipers are clearly visible to signal its high performance. Flush-fitting door handles preserve the aerodynamic profile along the side, leading back to a prominent rear roof spoiler and a distinctive full-width LED light bar that spans the sculpted tailgate.

Interior

Inside, the cabin prioritises driver focus while leveraging the benefits of the flat-floor EV architecture. The defining feature is a pair of deeply bolstered, suede-trimmed GT front bucket seats that provide exceptional lateral support during cornering with contrast neon green stitching. A clean, horizontal dashboard houses a panoramic curved display with two 12.3-inch screens, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Physical buttons are intentionally retained on the steering wheel for primary functions, complemented by a clever switchable touch-panel below the main display that toggles between climate and media controls. A floating center console creates a modern space, houses the rotary drive selector, and integrates a wireless charging pad.

Performance & Powertrains

The mechanics of the EV6 GT consist of a dual-motor, AWD powertrain paired with an upgraded 84kWh battery pack. The system develops 641bhp and 770 Nm of torque. This output launches the crossover from 0 to 62 mph in an astonishing 3.5 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 162 mph. The car delivers a range of up to 324 miles on a full charge. When it comes to charging, the advanced 800V electrical architecture can accept DC rapid charging speeds up to 263 kW. A dedicated neon green 'GT Mode' button on the steering wheel instantly sharpens the throttle response, firms up the electronically-controlled dampers, and engages an electronic limited-slip differential to distribute power effectively across the rear axle.

Practicality

Despite the performance upgrades, the vehicle preserves the standard crossover's versatility. A 2,900 mm wheelbase ensures that legroom in both the front and rear rows remains exceptionally generous. Headroom in the back is slightly compromised by the sloping, aerodynamic roofline, though a completely flat floor enables 3 passengers to sit across the rear bench without compromising foot space. The primary rear boot provides 480 litres of luggage capacity, which expands to a useful 1,260 litres when the 60:40 split rear seats are folded flat. Underneath the bonnet, a small 20-litre frunk offers just enough space to store the vehicle's Type 2 charging cables.

Buying

The Kia EV6 GT arrives with a highly inclusive standard specification, priced from £60,035. Because it serves as the absolute range-topping model, optional extras are kept to a minimum as almost all of it comes pre-installed. Standard equipment includes the 14-speaker Meridian premium audio system, a comprehensive head-up display, a heat pump for cold-weather thermal efficiency, and the complete Highway Driving Assist 2 safety suite. The EV Hub recommended configuration has to be the EV6 GT AWD. Given that the technical setup, adaptive suspension, and luxury features are fixed from the factory, choosing this setup ensures optimal performance and striking visual presence without inflating the price.
