The Vauxhall Corsa GSE revives the iconic British hot hatch legacy for the electric era, serving as the performance flagship of the Corsa range. Sitting on an upgraded iteration of the e-CMP architecture, it brings genuine motorsport engineering to the supermini segment, rivaling models like the Alpine A290, MINI JCW Electric, and Peugeot e-208 GTi. Positioned as an affordable performance car, the Corsa GSE combines track-bred chassis upgrades with compact everyday usability.
Design
Visual distinction comes from aggressive GSE-specific bodywork that drops the ride height and expands the footprint. Up front, the dark Vauxhall Vizor grille is framed by sharp LED matrix headlights and a front bumper designed to maximize cooling and downforce. Pronounced wheel arch extensions accommodate 18-inch three-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. Visible behind the wheels are red-painted four-piston Alcon performance brake calipers. At the rear, a prominent roof spoiler, a functional rear diffuser, and GSE badging emphasize its performance intentions, complemented by black side mirrors and contrasting roof options.
Interior
The driver-focused cabin blends modern digital hardware with heritage-inspired Motorsport accents. Up front, deep-set GSE performance bucket seats feature integrated headrests and bolstered side support, trimmed in a modern 1980s retro-inspired fabric design alongside yellow accent seatbelts. The flat-bottomed steering wheel is wrapped in tactile Alcantara, matching the door card inserts. Tech is anchored by a 10-inch central touchscreen infotainment unit paired with a 7-inch digital driver display, both running GSE-specific software. Cabin plastics are sturdy, though lower dash areas retain hard-wearing materials found in the standard Corsa.
Performance & Powertrains
Power is delivered by a single front-mounted electric motor producing 207 kW and 345 Nm of torque, making it the fastest-accelerating production Vauxhall currently sold. A sprint from 0 to 62 mph takes just 5.5 seconds, running onto a top speed of 112 mph. Energy comes from a 54 kWh battery, providing an estimated range of 215 miles. Power is sent strictly to the front wheels through a mechanical Torsen multi-plate limited-slip differential, minimizing wheelspin and suppressing unwanted torque steer through tight bends. The chassis features stiffened anti-roll bars, custom hydraulic shock absorbers, and a lower ride height. DC rapid charging reaches up to 100 kW, enabling a 10 to 80% top-up in around 26 minutes.
Practicality
Despite its performance overhaul, the Corsa GSE maintains identical interior packaging to the standard Corsa Electric. Boot space stands at 309 litres with the rear seats raised, expanding to 1,018 litres when the 60/40 split-folding rear seats are dropped flat. Rear passenger space remains acceptable for short trips or children, though tall adults will find knee room tight behind the thick front performance seats. Up front, storage includes large door bins, central cupholders, a wireless smartphone charging tray, and a medium-sized glovebox.
Buying
The Vauxhall Corsa GSE carries a starting price of £34,495. This undercuts key rivals including the MINI JCW Electric and Alpine A290 GTS while packing more mechanical hardware like its standard Torsen differential and Alcon brakes. Standard equipment is comprehensive, featuring 18-inch wheels, Alcon brakes, sports seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, and a suite of advanced driver assistance safety systems. The EV Hub recommended configuration has to be the single-configuration Corsa GSE.
