Overview
The BMW iX M70 stands as the high-performance flagship of the updated, tech-heavy iX luxury SUV. Developed with BMW's M division, it succeeds the previous M60 variant to offer blistering pace combined with high levels of refinement. It positions itself at the top tier of the premium electric SUV sector, competing directly with high-end, high-output alternatives such as the Lotus Eletre R, and Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric.
Design
The exterior styling of the iX M70 remains highly distinctive and bold, featuring a tall, blocky SUV design to maximize interior space. The recent facelift introduces subtle changes to the front end, adding horizontal line elements that run through the large kidney grille panel to show it's the sporty version. This front grille is entirely blanked off and serves as an intelligence panel, housing the various advanced radar and driver-assistance sensors. M Sport specific front and rear bumpers, high-gloss black side frame decorative mouldings, aerodynamic flush-fitting integrated door handles, and large 22-inch or 23-inch alloy wheels wrapped in performance tyres distinguish the M70 from other trims. The underlying vehicle architecture uses an advanced aluminum spaceframe wrapped around an inner Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic cage to give it more structural rigidity.
Interior
BMW has created a thoroughly minimalist yet opulent lounge-like ambiance inside the cabin, utilizing premium fit and finish throughout. The dashboard is dominated by a sweeping curved display housing a crisp digital driver's instrument screen and a feature-packed central touchscreen. Unlike many modern premium rivals, the iX retains a physical iDrive rotary controller on the floating centre console, alongside luxury options such as a crystal glass gear selector and wood or carbon fibre trim. The M70 specification upgrades the interior experience further by adding ventilated and massaging front multi-function sports seats, an M-specific steering wheel, a dark headliner, and an expansive wireless phone charging pad. Additional premium touches include heated central and door armrests, though the button-operated electronic interior door releases can take some time to get used to.

Performance & Powertrains
The iX M70 uses a dual-motor, AWD powertrain to generate a massive output of 659 hp and 1,015 Nm of torque when launch control is engaged. This enables the heavy SUV to rocket from 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds, moving onward to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Energy is stored in a battery with a capacity of 111kWh, delivering a range of 365 miles. For rapid charging, the car supports DC ultra-rapid speeds of up to 195 kW, which allows a 10% to 80% charge in about 35 minutes. An advanced heat pump system works to optimize winter efficiency. To manage its weight through corners, the M70 is equipped with standard two-axle adaptive air suspension, electronically controlled dampers, high-performance M Sport brakes, and active rear-wheel steering.
Practicality
Occupant space is a major strength of the iX, thanks to the long 3,000 mm wheelbase and a completely flat floor that creates excellent legroom and headroom in both front and back. Cabin storage is plentiful, featuring a large button-operated glovebox, wide door bins with built-in dividers, and an under-armrest cubby. However, luggage capacity is slightly compromised for a vehicle of this size due to a thick, space-consuming tailgate mechanism and a narrower load floor relative to rivals. The boot offers 500 litres of cargo volume with the rear seats in place, expanding up to 1,750 litres when the 40:20:40 split-folding rear seatbacks are lowered.
Buying
The flagship BMW iX M70 xDrive is priced from £114,305, a significant price drop over the older M60, despite receiving performance and technology upgrades. Because the M70 comes heavily equipped straight out of the box with the most advanced powertrain, upgraded M chassis tech, 22-inch wheels, and luxurious massaging seats, optional extras are largely limited to custom paint finishes, larger 23-inch wheels, or specialized driving assistant packages. EV Hub recommended configuration is the iX M70 that provides the optimal balance of luxury and performance for this flagship model. It is recommended to stick with the standard 22-inch aerodynamic wheels rather than upgrading to the 23-inch ones, as the smaller diameter helps protect the ride comfort and maximizes the range.
