Overview

The Kia EV4 Fastback establishes itself as a highly competitive contender in the electric saloon market, stepping up as a direct rival to established models like the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal. Positioned as Kia's first electric saloon, it leverages the brand's successful bespoke electric architecture to deliver premium engineering in a sleek, low-profile bodystyle. It avoids the traditional SUV silhouette, targeting buyers who seek a combination of long-distance refinement, exceptional efficiency, and a distinctive road presence.

Design

The exterior design of the EV4 Fastback is bold and unapologetically futuristic, defined by an ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.23 Cd that makes it the most aerodynamic production car Kia has ever created. Up front, the sharp nose integrates Kia's familiar Tiger Face paired with the striking Star Map vertical LED light signature pushed to the outer edges of the bonnet. Active air flaps in the front bumper open and close to manage cooling, while the vehicle underside is almost entirely covered to smooth airflow. Moving toward the rear, the sweeping coupe-like roofline flows into an elongated boattail silhouette and sharp rear light clusters, creating a unique, fluid aesthetic that stands out.

Interior

Inside, the cabin delivers a clean, modern, and driver-centric environment characterized by premium materials and excellent forward visibility. The prominent tech feature is the 3-screen dashboard layout, which combines a 12.3-inch driver display, a 5.3-inch climate control touchscreen, and another 12.3-inch infotainment screen running Kia's latest connected car Navigation Cockpit system. This setup supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, alongside an upgraded AI voice assistant powered by generative AI. Ergonomics are enhanced by moving the gear selector to the steering column, freeing up space in the floating center console for more storage. Ambient lighting responds to driving modes, completing a premium aesthetic that punches above its class.

Performance & Powertrains

The EV4 Fastback comes exclusively with a FWD powertrain, pairing a single front-mounted electric motor with a large 81kWh battery pack. The motor generates 201 bhp and 283 Nm of torque, which provides spritely performance and propels the saloon from 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds, reaching a maximum top speed of 105 mph. Thanks to its highly efficient aerodynamics, the vehicle achieves a compelling range of up to 380 miles. Charging relies on a 400V architecture, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes when connected to a 150kW rapid charger. On the move, the car delivers a highly refined, quiet ride that irons out imperfections on urban tarmac while remaining planted on the motorway.

Practicality

Despite its sweeping roofline, the long wheelbase ensures excellent cabin practicality with plenty of headroom and class-leading rear legroom for passengers. The lack of a central transmission tunnel results in a completely flat floor, allowing 3 adults to sit comfortably side-by-side in the back row. The traditional saloon-style boot lid opens to reveal a generous 490-litre cargo capacity, which expands to 1,435 litres when the 60:40 split-folding rear seats are dropped. Cabin storage is equally thoughtful, featuring massive door pockets, a large glove box, and multiple USB-C ports integrated into the seat sides.

Buying

Kia limits the EV4 Fastback line-up strictly to higher-tier specifications, leaving out the entry-level grade found on the hatchback variant. The range opens with the well-equipped GT-Line model starting from £40,945, while the top-flight GT-Line S starts at £45,445. Both specifications represent a strong value proposition considering the extensive standard equipment list, including premium safety systems, heated front seats, and a comprehensive 7-year or 100,000-mile warranty. The EV Hub recommended configuration is the entry-level GT-Line, as it offers the same 81kWh battery, 380-mile range, and motor performance as the flagship variant while saving thousands on price.
