Q4 Sportback e-tron

Overview

The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron represents the German brand's coupe-SUV entry in the compact premium electric crossover market. Sharing its underlying MEB architecture with stablemates like the Volkswagen ID.5 and Skoda Enyaq Coupé, the Q4 Sportback distinguishes itself through premium styling, an elevated interior, and sharper tuning. Its primary competition comes in the form of the Tesla Model Y, Cupra Tavascan, and Volvo EC40. Positioned above the standard square-backed Q4 e-tron SUV, the Sportback variant commands a slight price premium while catering to buyers who prioritise a sleek look and enhanced aerodynamics without sacrificing core usability.

Design

Audi has given the Q4 Sportback e-tron an assertive exterior that translates the brand's combustion engine design cues into the electric era. Up front, a massive enclosed octagonal Singleframe grille dominates the front, framed by slim matrix LED headlights with customizable daytime running lights. Sharp creases along the side profile highlight muscular shoulder lines over the wheel arches. The defining characteristic is its sweeping roofline, which flows from the B-pillar into a small rear spoiler that splits the glass tailgate. A continuous full-width LED light bar spans the rear end. Standard models roll on 19-inch alloy wheels, while higher trims upgrade to 20 or 21-inch designs that fill the flared arches more.

Interior

Inside, the cabin delivers the tech-focused, premium aesthetic expected of an Audi, combined with an open, airy feel from the flat-floor EV architecture. The dashboard angles noticeably toward the driver, housing a crisp 11.6-inch MMI touchscreen paired with Audi's 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster. A floating centre console frees up floor space beneath the gear selector. Physical climate control buttons remain below the central display, providing tactile operation on the move. High-touch surfaces feature soft-touch plastics, leatherette trims, and textured aluminum or oak wood accents depending on specification. The optional AR head-up display projects navigation arrows directly onto the driver's view of the road.

Performance & Powertrains

The Q4 Sportback e-tron lineup starts with the entry single-motor model generates 150 kW from a rear-mounted motor paired with a 63kWh battery, achieving 0-62 mph in 8.1 seconds and a range of 274 miles. The mid-tier RWD Performance configuration upgrades to a larger 82kWh battery and a 210 kW motor, dropping the 0-62 mph sprint to 6.7 seconds while yielding a driving range of up to 351 miles. The flagship dual-motor quattro variant adds a front motor to deliver a combined 250 kW and AWD traction, accelerating from 0-62 mph in 5.4 seconds with a range of up to 338 miles. Maximum DC fast-charging capacity reaches 165kW for the larger battery models, enabling a 10 to 80% recharge in approximately 27 minutes. 

Practicality

Despite the sloping roofline, the Q4 Sportback e-tron retains much of the practicality from the standard Q4 e-tron. Rear headroom is reduced by only 2cm, leaving ample clearance for taller adult passengers. Legroom across the rear bench is generous thanks to the long 2,764 mm wheelbase and the lack of a transmission tunnel. Surprisingly, boot capacity behind the rear seats measures 535 litres, which is actually 15 litres larger than the SUV variant due to the extended rear overhang. Folding the 40:20:40 split rear seats expands the total cargo load volume to 1,460 litres. Deep door pockets, dual central cupholders, a cubby under the floating armrest, and integrated front door bottle holders provide plenty of cabin storage. 

Buying

The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron range starts at a price of £48,160 for the entry-level Sport model with the 63kWh battery and extends to £70,560 for the high-spec Vorsprung quattro trim. Trim levels comprise of Sport, S Line, Black Edition, and Vorsprung. Standard equipment on the Sport trim includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated front seats, three-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and the full MMI navigation system. S Line models add sportier body styling, 20-inch wheels, ambient lighting, and front sport seats. Black Edition models introduce dark exterior trim accents and privacy glass, while range-topping Vorsprung models bundle matrix LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, Sonos premium audio, Nappa leather, and an adaptive suspension setup.

The EV Hub recommended configuration is the mid-range RWD Performance model in S Line trim. The larger 82kWh battery almost unlocks the maximum range at 349 miles, but does get the faster 165kW rapid charging, and responsive performance while adding sharper styling and a slightly upgraded interior. Adding the optional Tech Pack brings the augmented reality head-up display and wireless phone charging pad, creating an exceptionally complete premium electric package.
