Overview

The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is the German manufacturer's flagship entry into the heavy electric commercial vehicle market. Designed to cater to logistics operators, trades, and last-mile delivery fleets, it challenges main rivals like the Ford E-Transit, Renault Master E-Tech, and Vauxhall Movano Electric. Moving past the limited battery range of its first iteration, this updated generation introduces modular battery architectures, RWD, and impressive driving ranges, solidifying its place as a high-tech, highly efficient workhorse for business applications.

Design

The exterior design of the eSprinter remains deliberately functional, sharing its recognizable silhouette with the internal combustion Sprinter. Up front, a clean, bold radiator grille displays the brand's iconic three-pointed star, which also hides the integrated charging flap underneath. A short, sloping bonnet, durable bumpers, and sweeping headlights give it a modern commercial look. It is offered across L2 (Long) and L3 (Extra Long) body lengths, both featuring tall roof profiles that maximize aerodynamic efficiency alongside cargo height.

Interior

Inside the cabin, the eSprinter brings premium car-like refinement. The elevated driving position offers commanding forward visibility, supported by heated seating for the driver and a dual-passenger bench. The dash features Mercedes-Benz's latest 10.25-inch MBUX infotainment touchscreen system, which includes real-time electric navigation routing, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice command features. A multi-function steering wheel and steering-column-mounted paddles allow intuitive control over cabin settings and energy recovery modes.

Performance & Powertrains

The eSprinter utilizes a RWD platform powered by an electric motor available in two power outputs: 136 hp or 204 hp, both producing 400 Nm of instant torque. Power is supplied by a choice of 2 battery sizes: an 89 kWh pack providing up to 165 miles of range, or a massive 113 kWh pack delivering up to 272 miles. AC charging is handled via a standard 11 kW onboard charger with 22 kW available, while standard 115 kW DC rapid charging enables a 10% to 80% battery top-up in approximately 39 minutes for the 81 kWh battery and 46 minutes for the 113 kWh pack.

Practicality

By mounting the modular battery packs safely in the underbody between the axles, the eSprinter retains an uncompromised cargo area identical to its diesel siblings. Load compartment volume scales from 11 cubic metres in L2 configurations up to 14.0 cubic metres in L3 body styles, with a maximum load floor length reaching 4,400 mm. Maximum payloads range up to 651 kg on 3.5-tonne 89kWh variants, while 113 kWh models utilize a 1008kg maximum payload to compensate for battery mass while preserving a workable payload capacity.

Buying

Pricing for the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter starts from £58,740 excluding VAT for the 81 kWh L3 variant in PRO trim, scaling up to £73,260 excluding VAT for 113 kWh long-range options. The lineup is offered in two main specifications: PRO and SELECT. PRO includes MBUX navigation, pre-entry climate control, and active safety systems, while SELECT adds body-coloured trim, comfort seating, and enhanced driver assistance tools. The EV Hub recommended configuration is the eSprinter 314 L2 Panel Van in PRO trim with the 81 kWh battery, which keeps the vehicle within standard 3.5-tonne driving licence limits while delivering maximum payload capacity and a realistic 165-mile urban working range.
