Overview
The Cupra DarkRebel is a striking, fully electric two-seat sports car concept that serves as the ultimate design manifesto for the Spanish performance brand. Originally thought up entirely in a virtual environment, the vehicle is a unique collaborative effort where more than 270,000 online configurations from the public and brand ambassadors, known as the Cupra Tribe. This directly influenced its final physical form. Unveiled at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, this low-slung show car blends a dramatic shooting brake silhouette with gaming-inspired digital technology, aiming to prove that the future of zero-emission sports cars can remain highly emotional, provocative, and driver-focused.
Key Features
- Developed from data from an online configurator in Cupra's Metahype metaverse, collecting over 270,000 custom submissions.
- Extreme upward-opening doors that extend to a total height of 2.2 metres when fully deployed.
- A central interior structural element manufactured using 3D metal printing.
- A highly interactive UX/UI layout providing three distinct digital environments (Square, Cube, and Infinite) that blur the lines between physical driving and gaming.
- A roof-mounted thermal camera that monitors cabin occupants to adjust the intelligent climate control system automatically.
Design & Interior
The exterior of the DarkRebel measures 4.5 metres long, 2.2 metres wide, and just 1.3 metres tall, creating aggressive proportions. Its sharp front end features an evolution of the brand's identity, with three sharp triangles that serve as daytime running lights directly in the bodywork. The vehicle is finished in an dark violet paint that morphs into a mercury colour depending on the light. At the rear, an aggressive shooting brake design is complemented by massive aero splitters, deep air scoops, and short overhangs, similar to modern Formula E race cars.
Inside, the cabin delivers an radical, immersive cockpit heavily influenced by gaming. The driver and passenger sit low in Supersport bucket seats upholstered in 3D-knitted, colour-changing materials with unique copper and glass inserts. A sculptural, asymmetrical central spine runs down the middle of the interior to provide structural support while housing an illuminating glass gear shifter. The steering wheel is fully of racing-inspired geometry and a minimalist driver display. Airflow from the climate control system exits through visible, flexible fabric "gills" located beneath the windscreen, which physically expand or contract depending on the volume of air delivered, while reactive ambient backlighting changes colour to visually represent temperature adjustment.

Other Technical Specifications
Powering the DarkRebel is a high-performance, electric powertrain designed to deliver a racing-car feel on the road. As Cupra's most powerful show car to date, the dual-motor setup generates a peak power output of over 450 horsepower. This output enables a blistering 0-100 km/h acceleration time of under 4 seconds. Battery capacity, charging architectures, and range figures have not been detailed, as the powertrain serves primarily to showcase the potential of the brand's future.
Production Plans
While the Cupra DarkRebel is strictly a physical show car concept intended for digital expression rather than immediate showroom production, its design details serve as an official blueprint for the brand's next generation of road vehicles. Elements of its triangular lighting signature, aerodynamic treatments, and sustainable material manufacturing, such as the integration of 90% biodegradable bamboo inside the cabin, are likely going to translate onto upcoming production models. No official commercial release date or production timeline has been confirmed for a more direct interpretation of this concept.
