Overview

The Genesis X Speedium Coupe is an all-electric grand touring concept that showcases the luxury brand's evolving design for its future EVs. Originally unveiled as a design study at Genesis House in New York and later completed with a full interior for Monterey Car Week. Named after the Inje Speedium racetrack in South Korea, the vehicle serves as a styling manifesto rather than a direct blueprint for a specific production model, highlighting how the signature DNA of the brand adapts to an electrified future.

Key Features

  • Full-width Two Lines LED lighting signature that reinterprets the crest grille.
  • Asymmetric, driver-centric cockpit layout.
  • Striking two-tone interior colour featuring Pinegrove Green and Monterey Gold.
  • High-fidelity bespoke sound system developed in collaboration with Metal Sound Design.
  • Eco-friendly cabin materials including chromium-free vegetable-tanned leather and textiles woven from repurposed plastic.
  • Aerodynamic hourglass silhouette with an integrated rear ducktail spoiler and V-shaped brake light.

Design & Interior

The exterior of the X Speedium Coupe uses a minimalist approach to automotive styling with a reductive design philosophy where structural purity takes over unnecessary trim. At the front, the traditional Genesis mesh grille is replaced by a smooth, solid surface framed by full-width LED light bars that form an illuminated triangle. This signature lighting extends across the front and wraps past the wheels. The side profile features a continuous parabolic line that sweeps from the front bonnet to the rear. The roofline extends further back than a conventional coupe, creating a shooting-brake shape. The exterior is coated in Inje Green, a metallic emerald shade inspired by the mountainous backdrop of the Korean racing circuit.

Inside, the cabin relies heavily on asymmetry to frame the driving environment. The floating centre console and curved OLED instrument cluster tightly curve around the driver, effectively separating the driver's zone from the passenger. The main instrument panel features a digital screen with a modern retro power output display instead of a standard rev counter, while a vertical portrait display handles climate and primary media settings. Advanced audio engineering is embedded directly into the layout. Traditional sports car quilting lines the seats, while the steering wheel utilizes woven cut-off leather salvaged from repurposed manufacturing materials.

Other Technical Specifications

As a pure design exploration and lifestyle study, Genesis has not disclosed specific mechanical powertrain metrics, battery capacities, or torque figures for the X Speedium Coupe. However, because the concept utilizes the overarching corporate engineering direction of the Hyundai Motor Group, it is designed around the dedicated E-GMP electric architecture. This structure implies that any production version of the grand tourer would feature a dual-motor, AWD configuration similar to performance models on the same platform, which currently deliver up to 577 bhp. The underpinnings support advanced 800V electrical hardware, allowing for ultra-rapid DC charging capabilities that can replenish a battery from 10% to 80% capacity in approximately 18 minutes. Under this system architecture, target driving ranges are projected to exceed 430 miles on a single sharge.

Production Plans

Genesis has explicitly stated that the X Speedium Coupe is an internal styling exercise rather than a direct prototype destined for the assembly line. Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke confirmed that the vehicle is a conceptual tool meant to preview the design language of the next wave of production electric models rather than a specific vehicle. While a direct one-to-one production version is highly unlikely, the unique front lighting graphic, aerodynamic fastback proportions, and sustainable interior are confirmed to transition onto the brand's upcoming production EVs as Genesis targets a fully electric lineup.
