Design
Measuring 4,153 mm in length, the ID. Cross boasts a confident and planted stance that follows Volkswagen's latest 'Pure Positive' design language. Its styling focuses heavily on visual stability and friendly, approachable proportions rather than overly aggressive lines. Key visuals include a prominent, sweeping roofline and a thick, robust C-pillar adorned with three subtle horizontal stripes—a nostalgic nod to the classic VW buses of the 1960s. The front and rear of the vehicle feature striking light bars, which can be upgraded to advanced IQ.Light LED matrix headlights and 3D LED rear lights with fully illuminated VW logos. Wheel options range from sensible 17-inch alloys to dramatic 20-inch rims on top-tier specifications, filling out the arches neatly to enhance its rugged crossover look.
Interior
Inside, the ID. Cross feels remarkably spacious and marks a significant shift back to physical controls. Volkswagen has abandoned the controversial touch-sensitive haptic sliders of previous ID models, replacing them with tactile, logical, and premium-feeling physical buttons on the steering wheel and dashboard. The dashboard and doors are clad in soft-touch fabrics combined with ambient lighting rather than hard plastics, creating a cosy, lounge-like aesthetic. Technology is offered by a crisp, highly responsive 12.9-inch central infotainment screen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, alongside a fun, retro instrument display mode that mimics the dials of a classic Polo.

Volkswagen offers the ID. Cross with 3 front-mounted electric motor outputs paired with 2 battery options. The entry-level model produces 114 bhp, while a mid-range option delivers 133 bhp, both utilising a 37 kWh LFP battery pack. This setup achieves a highly usable range of up to 196 miles and supports DC fast charging at speeds up to 90 kW. For those prioritising distance, the top-tier 208 bhp variant couples with a larger 52 kWh NMC battery, boosting the driving range to 271 miles. The larger battery charges at up to 105 kW, enabling both battery variants to complete a 10 to 80 percent top-up in under 24 minutes. Adaptive DCC suspension is also available on flagship variants to sharpen up handling on twisting roads.
Practicality
Thanks to the clever packaging of the MEB+ platform, the ID. Cross excels in spatial efficiency, offering significantly more passenger space than a traditional petrol-powered supermini. Rear legroom and headroom are excellent for a car of this footprint, easily accommodating adult passengers comfortably. Storage is a massive strength, starting with a generous 475-litre boot, which is 20 litres larger than that of the T-Cross. It features a large 102-litre hidden underfloor compartment perfect for shopping, plus a dedicated 25-litre frunk under the bonnet to house charging cables out of the way.

Pricing for the Volkswagen ID. Cross is highly competitive, with the line-up expected to start from approximately £24,000 for the base 37kWh model, rising to just above £30,000 for high-specification 52kWh editions. The EV Hub recommended configuration will be the cheapest variant with the larger battery available. While the smaller 37 kWh battery is perfect for short city commutes, the 52 kWh variant offers the necessary 271-mile range flexibility for worry-free long-distance motorway journeys. This configuration strikes the absolute best balance of performance, charging capability, and range, making it the most versatile and future-proof choice for most people.
