The MG Cyberster marks a historic moment for the brand, serving as a spiritual successor to legendary open-top sports cars like the MGB, while leading MG into a new era of high-performance electric vehicles. Positioned as a flagship halo model, it is a two-seat, drop-top electric roadster designed to combine traditional open-air thrill with modern electric driving. Competing in a unique segment with few direct electric convertible rivals, the Cyberster bridges the gap between classic sports car enthusiasm and cutting-edge EV technology.
Design
Visually, the MG Cyberster makes a dramatic statement with low-slung proportions, a long bonnet, and aggressive aerodynamic body lines. Its defining feature is a pair of electrically-operated scissor doors that pivot upwards. The front features sleek headlights and dynamic air intakes, while the rear has striking arrow-shaped LED tail lights. A fully electric fabric soft-top roof can be operated on the move and is available in contrasting black or red fabric options depending on the body color selected.
Interior
Inside, the Cyberster focuses heavily on the driver with a cockpit-style wrap-around layout. The instrument panel consists of a three-screen setup surrounding the steering wheel, comprising of a 10.25-inch main driver display flanked by two 7-inch screens for navigation, vehicle telemetry, and media. An additional 7-inch touchscreen sits low on the center console for climate control functions. The cabin is constructed in leather-style and Dinamica suede upholstery, with sport seats with electric memory adjustment, heated seating, and a premium 8-speaker Bose audio system.
Performance & Powertrains
The Cyberster is offered in two powertrain options, both powered by a 77 kWh battery pack. The single-motor Trophy trim sends 250 kW and 475 Nm of torque to the rear wheels, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 5.0 seconds with a range of 316 miles. The range-topping dual-motor GT variant provides AWD, outputting 375 kW and 725 Nm of torque to launch from 0 to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds, with a lower range of 276 miles. Charging includes a maximum DC rapid rate of 144 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% recharge in approximately 38 minutes.
Practicality
As a dedicated two-seat roadster, practicality is focused on everyday usability rather than maximum load volume. Rear luggage space is catered for by a 249-litre boot, but there is no frunk available. Within the cabin, storage solutions include a central armrest compartment, cupholders, door pockets, and a dedicated sunglasses holder. The electric soft-top mechanism retracts neatly without compromising the primary rear luggage cavity.
Buying
The MG Cyberster starts at £54,995 for the single-motor Trophy trim, while the high-performance dual-motor GT trim is priced from £59,995. Both specifications come generously equipped, including launch control, a 360-degree parking camera, Bose audio system, and comprehensive active safety driver assistance features. The EV Hub recommended configuration is the entry-level Cyberster Trophy. Its single-motor arrangement offers a lighter kerb weight, traditional RWD sports car handling dynamics, and an extended range of 316 miles while retaining identical luxury cabin equipment and scissor doors at a lower price point.
