Overview

Hyundai's IONIQ 6 N represents the peak of the brand's electric performance lineup, directly applying the engineering mastery seen in the IONIQ 5 N to a sleeker saloon body. Positioned at the absolute top of the IONIQ 6 range, this model targets pure driving engagement and outright performance rather than the standard car's efficiency-focused character. It operates in a highly competitive market bracket, going head-to-head with premium alternatives such as the Tesla Model 3 Performance and BMW i4 M60, while offering a credible electric alternative to traditional super-saloons.

Design

Visually, the IONIQ 6 N builds heavily on the standard model's low-drag streamliner silhouette but adds a significantly more aggressive, track-inspired aesthetic based on the facelifted version of the car. The front end replaces the original headlamps with narrower, sharper LED light clusters sat above a deep N front bumper with active air flaps. Widened wheel arches, deeper side skirts, and a large rear diffuser emphasize its planted stance, while a large swan-neck rear wing combines with a secondary ducktail spoiler underneath to maximize high-speed downforce. The exterior treatment is rounded off by lightweight 20-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in model-specific 275mm-wide Pirelli P Zero tyres.

Interior

The cabin blends everyday functionality with the focused ergonomic atmosphere expected of a true high-performance machine. It benefits from the latest upgrades, featuring premium soft-touch materials on the door cards and a reconfigured center console that optimizes storage, including a secure slot behind the wireless charging pad. Deep, hard-backed Alcantara and leather bucket seats are shared with its sibling, the 5 N, but they are mounted much lower to fix the limited headroom issues that affected taller drivers in the standard car. Drivers face an N-specific leather steering wheel fitted with physical drive-mode switches, a dedicated N Grin Boost button, and tactile paddles to manage the simulated gear shifts. Technology is handled by a dual-screen layout running Hyundai's connected car Navigation Cockpit infotainment platform.

Performance & Powertrains

Utilizing an advanced 800V E-GMP architecture, the IONIQ 6 N features a dual-motor, AWD system delivering 609 hp under normal conditions and scaling up to 641 hp and 770 Nm of torque when N Grin Boost is activated. This propels the saloon from 0-62 mph in just 3.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 160 mph. Energy is drawn from an 84 kWh battery pack that provides a range of 302 miles. Charging performance is class-leading, utilizing a maximum DC fast-charging speed of 350 kW to charge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. The car delivers incredible agility through an electronic limited-slip differential, updated geometry, and electronically adjustable dampers that keep body movements strictly controlled. The driving experience is highly interactive due to the updated N e-Shift system, which mimics a sequential gearbox, and N Active Sound+, which provides authentic acoustic feedback.

Practicality

While performance takes priority, the vehicle maintains the fundamental space advantages of a dedicated EV platform, offering expansive legroom for passengers in both the front and rear. Storage solutions include large door bins, central cup holders, and a standard heat pump to protect cold-weather efficiency. The boot capacity stands at 480 litres, which easily accommodates a set of large suitcases, and the rear bench splits and folds in a 60/40 configuration. However, optimization for track driving introduces a chassis strut brace across the rear seat backs, which does limit the ability to load long, bulky items flat through the cabin. The vehicle also suffers from a relatively wide turning circle of 12.32 metres.

Buying

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 N is priced from £65,800. It arrives in a single specification that includes all performance hardware, advanced safety systems, a head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, and 20-inch wheels as standard. This positioning undercuts premium performance alternatives like the Porsche Taycan while offering standard kit that would cost thousands extra on traditional German rivals.
