Overview

The BMW i4 M60 xDrive Gran Coupé represents the absolute pinnacle of BMW's electric four-door saloon lineup, directly replacing the popular M50 variant. It serves as an electrified counterpart to the internal combustion engine 4 Series Gran Coupé rather than a bespoke EV platform. This allows it to target premium executive rivals like the Tesla Model 3 Performance and Polestar 2 by appealing to drivers who want a traditional, high-quality luxury experience combined with ferocious electric power. Positioned firmly within the BMW M Performance division, the i4 M60 blends everyday cruising with sports car acceleration.

Design

The exterior design of the i4 M60 leans heavily into traditional BMW athletic styling rather than an overtly radical design. Up front, it features the prominent, fully enclosed kidney grille with high-gloss black horizontal slats and a subtle M badge. Following recent design refreshes, the front fascia includes newly structured vertical LED headlights and optional laser taillights at the rear. True to its performance theme, the M60 is fitted with an aerodynamic M rear spoiler, a sculpted rear diffuser, and carbon fibre mirror caps under the optional M Carbon Exterior Styling pack. Large 20-inch M Performance double-spoke alloy wheels fill the arches and give the low-slung, sweeping fastback shape a purposeful and planted stance.

Interior

Inside, the i4 M60 delivers a premium design thanks to its exceptional build quality and a driver-focused layout. The centerpiece is the BMW Curved Display, which combines the digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen running the latest Operating System. This interface includes smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. While the system looks crisp and modern, standard physical climate controls have been removed, meaning it's been entirely integrated into the screen. Tactile elements reinforce the sporty character, such as the flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with contoured thumb rests and deeply bolstered M Sport seats that offer excellent lateral support.

Performance & Powertrains

Power comes from 2 advanced BMW M eDrive motors—one on each axle—creating a rear-biased xDrive AWD system. These current-generation motors are constructed without permanent magnets, eliminating the use of rare-earth metals. Together, they generate a total output of 601 hp and 795 Nm of torque. When using the M-specific Sport Boost, the i4 M60 vaults from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds, continuing on to an electronically limited top speed of 140 mph. Energy is supplied by an 84kWh battery pack packaged low in the vehicle floor. Thanks to efficient silicon-carbide power inverters, the M60 achieves an official range of 334 miles, which drops to around 321 miles with larger 20-inch alloy wheels. DC rapid charging peaks at 205 kW, allowing a 10 to 80% change in 30 minutes. Driving dynamics are kept highly controlled by standard adaptive M suspension with rear air springs and variable sport steering, delivering immense traction out of corners and a remarkably composed, refined highway ride.

Practicality

Configured as a five-door fastback with frameless doors, the i4 M60 combines an executive silhouette with practical everyday usability. The rear tailgate opens electronically to reveal a well-shaped 470-litre boot, capable of swallowing three large suitcases. This capacity expands up to 1,290 litres when the rear passenger seats are folded down. Storage inside the cabin is adequate, featuring standard door bins, a central glovebox, and a dedicated storage area under the armrest. However, passenger space in the rear is somewhat compromised. Because the vehicle shares its basic architecture with internal combustion models, it retains its prominent central transmission tunnel that eats into middle-seat legroom, making the rear tightly suited for 2 adults rather than 3. Additionally, the lower roofline limits rear headroom for taller passengers, meaning it excels as a business express rather than a primary family hauler.

Buying

Prices for the top-tier BMW i4 M60 xDrive start at £71,525, positioning it at the premium end of the mid-sized executive electric sector. Standard specification is very generous, including the curved display infotainment, adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering, an electric boot lid, and comprehensive driver assistance features. However, checking the options boxes for upgrades like the M Sport Package Pro, tech packs, or premium paint finishes can quickly push the final price past £80,000. For the EV Hub recommended configuration, specifying the car with standard 19-inch wheels over the optional 20-inch variants is recommended, as it preserves the maximum 334-mile range and offers a more compliant, forgiving ride over uneven B-roads. Retaining the standard suspension setup ensures the car strikes the optimal balance between brutal M-division acceleration and relaxed cruising.
