Overview
The Mercedes-AMG EQE sits at the top of Affalterbach's all-electric executive line-up, combining long-distance luxury with instant electric performance. Built on the dedicated EVA2 electric vehicle platform, it serves as the performance-focused sibling to the standard EQE saloon and directly competes against high-performance electric models like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Audi RS e-tron GT.
Design
The Mercedes-AMG EQE gains distinctive exterior styling that set it apart from standard Mercedes-Benz EQE variants. Up front, it features an AMG-specific black panel grille with vertical chrome struts and an integrated Mercedes star, flanked by Digital Light LED headlights. The front incorporates a high-gloss black splitter alongside sporty air intakes. Sweeping one-bow aerodynamic lines define the side profile, enhanced by wider side sills, high-gloss black trim, and 20-inch or 21-inch AMG light-alloy wheels. At the rear, a pronounced lip spoiler, dark-tinted glass, and a diffuser-look rear apron complete its aggressive stance.
Interior
The cabin blends tech with motorsport-inspired luxury. AMG sports seats are trimmed in leather or Microcut microfibre with red contrast stitching and enhanced lateral support. A flat-bottomed AMG Performance steering wheel includes integrated rotary dials for selecting drive modes and adjusting vehicle dynamics. The dashboard features the MBUX infotainment system with AMG-specific menus, displays, and AR navigation. A full-width 3-screen MBUX Hyperscreen is available as an option. Standard interior equipment includes a Burmester 3D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos, 64-colour ambient lighting, climate-controlled front seats, and a HEPA cabin air filtration system.
Performance & Powertrains
Power is delivered by two electric motors, one on each axle, creating a fully variable 4MATIC+ AWD system. In standard AMG 53 form, the system produces 625 hp and 950 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 137 mph. Adding the optional AMG Performance Package increases output to 677 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, reducing the 0 to 62 mph sprint to 3.2 seconds and increasing top speed to 155 mph. Energy is supplied by a 90kWh battery operating on a 400V architecture. The AMG EQE delivers a driving range of between 277 and 306 miles depending on trim and wheel selection. DC rapid charging peaks at 170 kW, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes. Airmatic adaptive air suspension and rear-axle steering up to 4.5 degrees are fitted as standard to enhance low-speed maneuverability and high-speed stability.
Practicality
Seating capacity accommodates 5 adults, though the swooping aerodynamic roofline reduces rear headroom compared to traditional three-box saloons. The boot offers 430 litres of luggage space with the rear seats in upright position, accessed through a saloon boot lid. There is no frunk, as the front section houses power electronics, the front motor, and climate control components. Cabin storage is practical, providing a large open tray beneath the floating centre console, deep door bins, a central armrest compartment, and split-folding rear seats.
Buying
The Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 starts at £105,995 for the AMG Night Edition trim, while the AMG Night Edition Premium+ variant is priced from £115,870. The EV Hub recommended configuration is the standard AMG Night Edition. It includes essential performance equipment such as Airmatic air suspension, rear-axle steering, 20-inch wheels, Burmester audio, and Matrix LED headlights, providing the full AMG driving experience without the added cost of top-tier trim packages or the Hyperscreen upgrade.
