Overview

The Genesis GV60 Magma marks the official launch of the South Korean brand's high-performance sub-brand, aiming to do for Genesis what the M division does for BMW. Positioned as a ultra-premium, driver-focused flagship, this model transforms the standard GV60 crossover into a serious performance weapon. It targets driving enthusiasts who want a luxury alternative to established electric performance models like the Alpine A390 and smart #5 Brabus, while occupying a more exclusive segment than its close mechanical relative, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N.

Design

The GV60 Magma features a heavily revised, purposeful aesthetic that emphasizes its performance. The vehicle has been significantly lowered and widened, reducing the overall ride height by 20mm compared to the standard model. Up front, restyled bumpers incorporate larger air intakes alongside distinct aero fins to optimize cooling and airflow efficiency. The side profile is dominated by wider wheel arches that house bespoke 21-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in wide 275-section Pirelli performance tyres. All traditional exterior chrome elements have been replaced with high-gloss black components and dark metal accents, while the rear features a prominent wing spoiler designed to generate genuine aerodynamic downforce.

Interior

The cabin blends high-end luxury with motorsport-inspired design, focusing heavily on premium tactile surfaces and specialized touchpoints. The driver and front passenger are held in place by 10-way electrically-adjustable bucket seats upholstered in premium artificial suede. The interior has an Obsidian Black color scheme, with buyers able to select either Magma Orange or Ash White contrast stitching to match dark metallic trim and black brushed aluminum detailing. Tech is centered around a massive 27-inch integrated panoramic OLED display that combines the digital driver cluster and the infotainment into a single unit. The signature Genesis Crystal Sphere gear selector remains on the floating center console, complemented by a bespoke Magma steering wheel featuring orange-accented drive mode buttons and physical paddles to change the regenerative braking and activate boost.

Performance & Powertrains

The mechanical core of the GV60 Magma consists of a highly upgraded dual-motor, AWD system drawing power from an 84kWh battery. The electric motors spin to over 20,000rpm, developing a baseline output of 609hp that swells to a peak of 650hp and 790Nm of torque with the 15-second Boost mode. This allows the car to run the 0-62mph sprint in 3.4 seconds before reaching a maximum top speed of 164mph. To handle this power, Genesis implemented an advanced electronically controlled suspension with altered geometry, a performance-tuned electronic limited-slip differential, and a heavy-duty braking setup using four-piston Monoblock front calipers clamping down on 400mm discs. Dynamic features include Launch Control, a dedicated Drift mode that introduces a heavy rear-wheel bias, and a Virtual Gear Shift system that simulates the stepped gear changes and mechanical feedback of an internal combustion sports car. Utilizing its advanced 800V architecture, the high-performance cooling system enables DC fast charging speeds capable of replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. The range sits comfortably or a performance-focused car at 278 miles.

Practicality

Despite the extensive performance upgrades, the vehicle maintains the fundamental packaging and everyday usability of the standard GV60. Passenger space in the second row is identical to the standard car, offering competitive legroom and headroom for adult passengers. Luggage space remains highly competitive for the premium performance class, offering roughly 430 litres of boot capacity behind the 60:40 split-folding rear seats, expanding significantly when the seats are folded flat. Everyday cabin storage consists of a large open area under the floating center console, deep door bins, and a small frunk that offers just under 20 litres of space, perfect for storing charging cables.

Buying

The Genesis GV60 Magma is offered as a premium, single-specification vehicle with a starting price of £75,915. Because it arrives as a fully loaded flagship model, options are strictly limited to personal aesthetic choices rather than functional equipment packages. Buyers can choose between nine distinct exterior paint colours and two contrast stitching configurations for the interior.
