Overview

The Genesis Electrified G80 is a full-sized premium luxury executive saloon that occupies a unique position in the electric vehicle market, prioritizing traditional, uncompromised comfort over digital gimmicks. Following its significant mid-life facelift, the vehicle received an extended wheelbase and an upgraded battery pack to better position it against formidable rivals such as the BMW i5, Mercedes-Benz EQE, and Audi A6 e-tron. Operating as a halo vehicle for Hyundai's luxury arm, the Electrified G80 acts as an understated, refined alternative to mainstream German luxury saloons, undercutting ultra-high-end competitors on price while aiming to deliver a comparable level of refinement.

Design

The exterior of the Electrified G80 emphasizes stately presence and aerodynamic efficiency, boasting a remarkably low coefficient of drag of 0.25. Its front profile features the brand's signature crest grille with a refined G-Matrix pattern that subtly integrates an electric, heated charging port. The lighting incorporates sophisticated Micro Lens Array pixel-array LED headlights, mirrored by indicator repeaters along the wings and matching the double tail lights at the rear. To improve rear passenger accommodation, the wheelbase has been lengthened by 130 millimetres, extending it to a total length of 5,135 mm. This gives the car an elongated silhouette that is nicely complemented by unique 19-inch Monobloc alloy wheels and extensive, high-quality chrome accents along the side profiles.

Interior

The cabin quality is exceptional, featuring assembly and materials that challenge the traditional ultra-luxury. The focal point of the dashboard is a continuous 27-inch OLED display that blends the digital instrument cluster and the primary infotainment system into a single, UHD interface with rapid response times and wireless smartphone integration. Tactile physical controls remain for climate settings, complete with beautiful metal dials and premium damping on all central storage. Sound insulation is excellent due to extensive acoustic glazing and an active road noise cancellation system, creating an exceptionally quiet environment. Space in the rear is vastly improved, providing an extra 83 mm of legroom, though the heavily sculpted rear means the cabin remains optimized for 2 passengers rather than 3.

Performance & Powertrains

Power is delivered via an AWD dual-motor setup that pairs a 136 kW motor on the front axle with an identical 136 kW motor on the rear axle, yielding a combined output of 272 kW. This propels the 2,410 kg saloon from 0 to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds, continuing to a top speed of 140 mph. Energy is stored in a 4th-gen 94.5 kWh battery pack, which delivers a range of 354 miles. The vehicle uses a 500-volt electrical architecture, allowing it 187 kW of DC rapid charging power to complete a 10% to 80% charge in 25 minutes. On the road, the driving dynamics lean heavily into a relaxed, floating sensation. The electronic control suspension uses a forward-facing camera to scan the road ahead and automatically prime the dampers for the upcoming road.

Practicality

While passenger accommodation is incredibly spacious, cargo capacity represents the vehicle's largest compromise. The conversion from an internal combustion platform to an EV means the battery packaging cuts into luggage capacity, restricting the boot space to a modest 334 litres. The boot opening itself is relatively narrow, and there is no or frunk beneath the bonnet. Cabin storage elsewhere is thoroughly practical, featuring a deep central armrest cubby, door pockets lined with protective material, and a well-positioned wireless charging tray. Rear-seat passengers benefit from a fold-down centre armrest that contains independent climate and media controllers, alongside integrated vanity mirrors in the headlining.

Buying

The Genesis Electrified G80 is priced from £76,515, for the Dynamic trim level. This standard specification includes an extensive suite of equipment such as the 27-inch OLED display, a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, 360-degree parking cameras, a head-up display, and remote smart parking assistance. The Luxury trim enhances this with Rear Seat Electric Leg Support, Rear Centre Armrest with Control Box, and Soft & Power Closing Doors. The EV Hub recommended configuration is the Dynamic trim. This is the best value option with the Luxury model mostly adding cosmetic changes and both using the same battery and motor configuration.
