Overview
The Mazda 6e is the Japanese brand's second mass-market fully-electric vehicle, succeeding the long-running Mazda6 as a sleek, electrified executive fastback saloon. Built on a platform co-developed with Chinese manufacturer Changan, the 6e combines traditional Mazda design with modern EV technology to directly compete against rivals like the Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2, BYD Seal, and Volkswagen ID.7.
Design
The Mazda 6e features an evolution of the brand's Kodo design language, boasting a low-slung, coupe-like silhouette with short overhangs and a long, sweeping bonnet line. Key styling cues include flush-fitting pop-out door handles, frameless doors, an active rear spoiler that deploys automatically at 56 mph, and an illuminated front grille integrated into the front bumper. At the rear, the distinct four-round LED light signature pays homage to historic Mazda roadsters and sports cars.
Interior
Inside, the 6e prioritises a minimal, modern aesthetic with elevated material quality. A vast 14.6-inch central touchscreen powered by the Snapdragon 8155 processor dominates the clean dashboard, housing controls for climate, seat functions, and vehicle settings alongside a 10.2-inch digital driver display. Standard features include synthetic leather material, a panoramic glass roof, 64-colour ambient lighting, a 50-inch AR head-up display, and a 14-speaker Sony audio system.
Performance & Powertrains
The single-powertrain configuration utilizes a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 258 hp and 290 Nm of torque directly to the rear wheels. Power is supplied by a 78 kWh LFP battery pack that achieves a range of 348 miles. Performance includes a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 109 mph. DC rapid charging peak speeds reach up to 195 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% recharge in approximately 24 minutes.
Practicality
Despite its fastback roofline, the 6e provides competitive interior room with a 2,900 mm wheelbase providing ample rear legroom. Luggage space is accessible via a wide-opening liftback tailgate, offering 466 litres of boot capacity with the rear seats upright and expanding to 1,074 litres with the 60:40 split rear seats folded flat. Up front, a 72-litre frunk provides additional storage space ideal for charging cables.
Buying
The Mazda 6e is available in two distinct trim levels. Takumi, which is priced from £38,995, includes 19-inch alloy wheels, panoramic roof, powered tailgate, 360-degree camera system, heated/ventilated front seats, AR head-up display, and 14-speaker Sony sound system. Takumi Plus, which is priced from £39,995, adds warm tan Nappa leather, suede upholstery accents and an electric blind for the panoramic roof. The EV Hub Recommended Configuration is the entry-level Takumi trim. It offers the strongest value proposition because both trim levels retain the identical 78 kWh battery pack, 348-mile range, and 195 kW DC fast-charging capacity, the standard model already includes almost all high-end luxury, technical, and comfort conveniences without requiring the price premium of the cosmetic upgrade.
