The all-new Lexus ES marks the eighth generation of the executive saloon and introduces a fully electric powertrain to the nameplate for the first time. Sized larger than its predecessor, the electric ES sits on an updated global architecture designed to compete directly against premium rivals including the BMW i3, Mazda 6e, and Polestar 2. Positioned as a refined, chauffeur-friendly alternative in the business saloon class, it combines quiet efficiency with distinctive Japanese luxury.
Design
Guided by the brand's Clean Tech x Elegance design philosophy, the ES features a sweeping profile with a trunkless appearance that tapers smoothly toward the rear. Up front, an evolution of the signature Lexus spindle body rises from a low-set nose, complemented by new twin L-shaped daytime running lights. Aerodynamic efficiency is prioritized through flush door handles, under-windscreen wipers, and active front grille shutters that automatically open and close to regulate airflow to the electric powertrain. At the rear, a full-width light bar incorporates LEXUS lettering to accentuate its wide stance.
Interior
Inside, the cabin adopts the driver-centric Tazuna cockpit layout, placing key information within the driver's natural field of view. The minimalist dashboard combines a 12.3-inch digital driver instrument display with a 14-inch touchscreen running the latest LexusConnect multimedia system. A notable technological innovation is the introduction of Hidden Switches, which remain unseen beneath the dashboard until the car is on, providing tactile haptic feedback when illuminated. Interior craftsmanship includes bamboo-inspired door panel trims that gently glow alongside the customizable ambient cabin lighting, while extensive acoustic glass and door sealing ensure great refinement.

Underpinned by Lexus's updated GA-K platform, the ES line-up includes the FWD 350e powered by a 165kW electric motor, alongside an AWD ES 500e variant. Equipped with a 77 kWh battery pack, the ES achieves a range between 326 and 361 miles depending on trim level. Peak DC fast-charging capacity reaches 150 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% battery recharge in approximately 28 minutes. Driver engagement is supported by synthetic manual gear shifts, paddle controls, and digital tachometer feedback to simulate stepped gear changes.
Practicality
Measuring 5,140 mm in length with an extended 2,950 mm wheelbase, the ES provides exceptional cabin room, particularly for rear-seat passengers. Boot capacity stands at 517 litres, exceeding the luggage space offered by both the BMW i5 and Audi A6 e-tron. Cabin storage features a wide front tray designed to accommodate two smartphones side-by-side with adjacent USB-C charging ports. For ultimate rear passenger comfort, top-tier Takumi trims offer power-reclining rear seats, an extendable Ottoman leg rest behind the front passenger, and a fold-down rear armrest control panel.
Buying
Pricing for the electric Lexus ES starts from £60,145 for the entry-level ES 350e Premium trim, extending up to £72,545 for the fully specified 350e Takumi flagship. First UK customer deliveries and official showroom arrivals are scheduled for late 2026. The EV Hub Recommended Configuration is the 350e Premium trim. This keeps the longest 361-miles range and all the features expected from a Lexus at this price point, but without inflating the price exponentially.
