Overview
The Renault Twingo E-Tech is an upcoming, budget-friendly A-segment electric city car. Built on Ampere's lightweight AmpR Small dedicated EV architecture, it slots directly below the iconic Renault 5 E-Tech in the brand's line-up. Taking strong neo-retro design cues from the 1990s original, it brings a fresh, personality-filled option to the entry-level EV market to rival vehicles like the Hyundai Inster, Leapmotor T03, and Dacia Spring.
Design
Exterior aesthetics are heavily influenced by the 1993 Mk1 Twingo, featuring signature semicircular LED headlights, a smile-like front grille, and three distinct bonnet air intake vents adapted for modern aerodynamics. The five-door hatchback shape incorporates clean body panels, and retro '90s-style rear light clusters with subtle aero fins. Bright exterior colour choices such as Mango Yellow, Absolute Green, and Absolute Red are complemented by wheel sizes ranging from 16-inch steel items up to stylish 18-inch alloy designs on higher trims.
Interior
The cabin balances playful design with smart cost-saving ergonomics and an intuitive layout. The dash features a 7-inch digital driver display alongside a 10-inch central touchscreen running Renault's OpenR Link infotainment system, complete with built-in Google services and the Reno AI avatar assistant. Body-coloured dashboard panels and speckled recycled plastics give the interior a vibrant feel, while physical climate control dials and dedicated buttons on the steering wheel preserve everyday usability.
Performance & Powertrains
Power comes from a single front-mounted electric motor producing 82 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque, propelling the front wheels to 62 mph in 12.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 81 mph. Energy is stored in a compact 27kWh LFP battery pack, delivering up to 163 miles of range on standard wheels, or 156 miles on larger rims. Rapid DC charging maxes out at 50 kW, enabling a 10-to-80 percent top-up in 30 minutes, while AC charging options include a standard 6.6 kW on-board charger or an optional 11 kW unit.
Practicality
Despite its compact overall length of just 3.79 metres, clever interior packaging provides surprising space for 4 occupants. Boot capacity is rated at 260 litres with the sliding rear bench pushed fully back for maximum passenger legroom, expanding up to 360 litres when the seats are slid forward, and reaching 1,000 litres with the 50/50 split rear seats folded flat. A split underfloor compartment provides a dedicated area to stow charging cables out of the way.
Buying
The Renault Twingo E-Tech is anticipated to launch with a starting price under £20,000 with the entry-level Evolution trim and top-spec Techno trims positioning closer to £24,000. Deliveries across European markets are scheduled to begin throughout 2026, with right-hand-drive models expected to hit showrooms shortly after.
