The Hyundai Inster is a compact A-segment electric city car with an SUV-inspired stance, positioned to compete against affordable rivals like the Renault 5 E-Tech, Citroën ë-C3, and Dacia Spring. Derived from the petrol-powered Casper sold in South Korea, the Inster features a lengthened wheelbase. It blends urban dimensions with a raised ride height to capture consumer preference for crossovers while keeping costs minimal.
Design
The exterior styling of the Inster balances a chunky, rugged aesthetic with futuristic design elements borrowed from Hyundai's larger IONIQ models. It features a boxy profile, distinctive clad wheel arches, roof rails, and a front-mounted charging port. The lighting signatures are a key visual highlight, incorporating pixel-graphic turn signals, daytime running lights, and matching taillamps that make it instantly recognizable. Depending on the chosen trim level, the car rides on either 15-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels, with higher-end versions offering a two-tone exterior with a contrasting black roof.
Interior
Inside, the cabin prioritizes intuitive usability by rejecting the industry trend of touch-only layouts. A dual-screen setup consisting of a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a matching 10.25-inch central infotainment touchscreen handles navigation and media, while a dedicated physical button panel below retains usability for climate control. While materials consists primarily of durable, hard plastics to keep production costs down, the overall construction feels solid and well put together. Premium touches such as ambient lighting and a heated steering wheel become available as you move up the range.
Performance & Powertrains
Buyers can choose between two distinct FWD electric powertrains. The Standard Range model utilizes a 42kWh battery paired with a 97hp electric motor, producing a maximum speed of 87 mph and a range of 203 miles. The Long Range variant steps up to a 49kWh battery and a more powerful 115hp motor, dropping the 0-62 mph sprint to 10.6 seconds and extending the range up to 229 miles on 15-inch wheels or 223 miles on 17-inch wheels. On a DC rapid charger, the Standard Range accepts up to 73kW while the Long Range handles up to 85kW, allowing both configurations to replenish from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes, helped by a standard-fit heat pump and battery heater.
Practicality
Despite its compact footprint, the Inster excels in cabin flexibility and passenger space, earning it comparisons to a vehicle of much larger proportions. It operates strictly as a four-seater, providing exceptional rear legroom and headroom for adult passengers. On the mid-tier 02 trim and above, the independent rear seats can slide and recline, allowing the boot volume to adjust dynamically from a standard 238 litres up to 351 litres with the seats slid forward, expanding to a maximum of 1,059 litres when folded. Additionally, the front seats can fold completely flat to accommodate exceptionally long cargo or create an open interior lounge space.

The Hyundai Inster line-up begins with the entry-level 01 trim at a price of £23,495, while the mid-range 02 trim starts at £26,745, and the rugged, top-spec Cross variant is priced from £29,005. The EV Hub recommended configuration is the Inster 02 Long Range, as this version introduces the sliding and flat-folding rear seating, heated seats, and the larger battery that transforms the it into a versatile daily driver.
