The Hyundai Crater Concept is an all-electric, compact off-road SUV that made its global debut at the 2025 Automobility LA motor show. It was designed at the Hyundai America Technical Center in California. Positioned as a rugged exploration of future electric mobility, the Crater Concept blends extreme off-road capability with high-tech functionality. It rides on massive 33-inch off-road tyres wrapped around 18-inch wheels designed to mimic asteroid impact craters. Inside, the cabin swaps traditional automotive luxury for a function-first aesthetic. An exposed structural roll cage outlines the passenger compartment, incorporating heavy-duty grab handles to ease entry and exit. The Black Ember material palette is designed to withstand sand, mud, and water, using highly durable textiles that will naturally patina over time. The dashboard features an immersive, full-width head-up display with multiple selectable terrain themes, and practical equipment like a built-in first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and a removable Bluetooth speaker are integrated directly into the cabin.

Other Technical Specifications

As a pure design and technology showcase, Hyundai has not released performance figures for the Crater Concept's powertrain. However, the vehicle is engineered around an advanced, all-electric monocoque platform featuring a dual-motor setup that provides AWD. The architecture integrates electronic front and rear locking differentials managed through the central mechanical controller to distribute instant electric torque precisely across varying conditions. The platform is designed to accommodate high-capacity battery packs with ultra-fast charging capabilities, utilizing structural integration to maximize underbody clearance and protection.
