Overview

The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV sits at the top of Affalterbach's electric SUV lineup, transforming the executive electric crossover into a high-performance luxury SUV. Competing head-to-head with potent performance EVs like the BMW iX M70 and Lotus Eletre, the AMG EQE SUV blends extreme straight-line acceleration with executive refinement. It targets buyers seeking uncompromising electric performance and cutting-edge technology without sacrificing the commanding driving position and usability expected of a mid-size SUV.

Design

The AMG EQE SUV distinguishes itself from standard EQE SUV variants with signature Affalterbach visual design. At the front, it features the AMG-specific black panel grille with vertical chrome louvres, flanked by Digital Light headlights with AMG projections. High-gloss black aerodynamic trims adorn the lower front, side skirts, and rear diffuser as part of the standard AMG Night Package. The sleek, aerodynamic silhouette drops rearward into a subtle roof spoiler, while large AMG light-alloy wheels up to 21 inches house upgraded high-performance brakes.

Interior

Inside, the cabin fuses high-end luxury materials with a distinctly motorsport-inspired aesthetic. AMG sports seats trimmed in Nappa leather feature bespoke stitching and embossed headrests, offering lots of lateral support when needed. The double-spoke AMG Performance steering wheel is trimmed in Microcut microfibre and equipped with tactile control dials. Dominating the dashboard is the full-width MBUX Hyperscreen display system, which integrates 3 OLED screens beneath a single curved glass panel to provide performance telemetry, navigation, and passenger entertainment.

Performance & Powertrains

Propulsion comes from twin AMG electric motors, one mounted on each axle, delivering fully variable 4MATIC+ AWD. The powertrain develops a massive 625 hp and 950 Nm of torque in standard form, enabling 0 to 62 mph acceleration in just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 137 mph. Energy is supplied by a 90 kWh battery pack. The range is rated at 279 miles on a single charge. Maximum DC rapid charging speed reaches 170 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% recharge in approximately 32 minutes, while an upgraded 22 kW AC on-board charger comes fitted as standard for faster charging. Adaptive air suspension with AMG Ride Control+ roll stabilization delivers flat cornering, while rear-axle steering sharpens agility.

Practicality

Despite its performance focus, the AMG EQE SUV retains excellent daily practicality. The 5-seat cabin offers generous legroom and headroom for adult passengers across both rows. Luggage capacity stands at 520 litres with the rear seats upright, expanding to 1,675 litres with the 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats stowed flat. A powered tailgate is included as standard, alongside 1,800 kg of braked towing capacity for towing trailers or recreational equipment.

Buying

Prices for the Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV start at £115,130 for the Night Edition and rise to £125,370 for the Night Edition Premium+. While the entry price is substantial, standard equipment levels are comprehensive, including air suspension, rear-axle steering, the MBUX Hyperscreen, and Burmester surround sound. The EV Hub recommended configuration is the AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ Night Edition trim for the best overall value. It provides the complete 625 hp performance, full AMG dynamic chassis setup, and key technology suites without inflating the price tag further. In this specification, it delivers the full 279-mile electric range while avoiding the heavier cosmetic upgrades that add weight.
