Overview

The all-electric Volkswagen e-Transporter Shuttle represents a total transformation for Volkswagen's legendary passenger transport heritage. Built on the latest shared platform co-developed with Ford, this generation abandons the legacy third-party conversions of previous years in favour of a fully integrated, factory-built electric architecture. Offered in both short and long wheelbases, it accommodates up to 9 occupants in a quiet cabin. Positioned to serve shuttle fleets, and taxi operators, the e-Transporter Shuttle balances heavy-duty commercial utility with passenger comfort. It sits beside the retro-styled ID. Buzz as the larger, more functional model in Volkswagen's electric passenger lineup.

Design

The exterior of the e-Transporter Shuttle adopts Volkswagen's clean, structured commercial design language. The front is defined by a distinctive closed-off upper grille flanked by slim LED headlights connected by a full-width light bar on higher trims. Crisp body lines run along the profile, giving the vehicle a planted stance. Twin sliding side doors come standard, providing wide access for passengers. Wheel options range from 16-inch silver alloys on entry models up to 19-inch cut-face designs. The rear features a broad, low-loading tailgate framed by vertical LED taillights. Body-coloured bumpers, flush glazing, and heated power-folding mirrors ensure the e-Transporter Shuttle presents a polished, professional image.

Interior

Inside, the cabin blends commercial durability with modern technology. The driver's cockpit features a 12-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a central 13-inch infotainment touchscreen running Volkswagen's latest software, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Soft-touch materials are reserved for primary touchpoints, while robust, easy-to-clean plastics define lower surfaces. Seating configurations include two front individual seats, a three-seat bench in the second row, and a three-seat bench in the third row. Three-zone automatic climate control is available to supply dedicated air vents throughout the passenger compartment. Acoustic insulation effectively isolates wind and road noise, while options like an expansive panoramic glass roof and a premium Harman Kardon sound system elevate the passenger experience.

Performance & Powertrains

The e-Transporter Shuttle uses a RWD single-motor configuration fed by a 65 kWh battery pack. Buyers can select between two power outputs: an entry-level 100 kW unit or a more powerful 160 kW variant, both producing 430 Nm of instant torque. The range spans up to 218 miles depending on body length and motor output. DC fast-charging peaks at 125 kW, allowing a 10 to 80% top-up in approximately 38 minutes at a rapid charger. Regenerative braking can be adjusted, including a high-recuperation single-pedal mode for city driving.

Practicality

Cabin space remains one of the e-Transporter Shuttle's primary strengths. The interior layout allows up to 9 adults to sit with ample head and legroom across all 3 rows. Even with all 3 rows occupied, the short-wheelbase model retains 800 litres of cargo capacity behind the 3rd row, while long-wheelbase variants extend that luggage volume. The rear seats are individual units or split benches that can be folded, tipped, or removed for the maximum load volume up to 4,698 litres. Low step-in heights and wide-opening dual sliding doors make ingress and egress easy. The floor is completely flat throughout, allowing easy movement inside the passenger compartment.

Buying

Prices for the e-Transporter Shuttle start from £56,129 for the entry-level Life model. Trim levels are split into Life and Style. Life models include 16-inch alloy wheels, the twin digital screen setup, heated front seats, LED headlights, and 3-zone climate control. Upgrading to Style adds 17-inch alloy wheels, IQ.Light LED Matrix headlights, synthetic leather upholstery, and rear privacy glass. The EV Hub recommended configuration is the e-Transporter Shuttle Life Short Wheelbase. This this setup provides all the luggage space required, while the cheapest options retains as much range as possible with the more efficient motor.
