Overview
The Polestar 5 is a fully electric four-door flagship grand tourer designed to compete directly with high-performance luxury saloons such as the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, and Lotus Emeya. Sitting at the top of the brand's lineup, it transfers the striking aesthetics of the original Precept concept car directly into production. Built on a bespoke bonded aluminium chassis developed in the UK, the model serves as an engineering showcase for Polestar, combining serious long-distance grand touring capabilities with track-ready performance.
Design
Low-slung and aerodynamic, the Polestar 5 features a sharp four-door fastback shape based on lightweight construction. Up front, the brand's dual-blade LED headlights flank a low nose designed to optimise airflow over the bonnet. Flush-fitting door handles, frameless side glass, and muscular rear haunches give it a purposeful stance on the road. Following the precedent set by the Polestar 4, the Polestar 5 completely removes the traditional rear glass window, substituting a solid body panel and a roof-mounted high-definition camera system to maximize rear headroom and aero efficiency.
Interior
The cabin offers a minimalistic Scandinavian aesthetic using high-end sustainable materials. Flax-weave composites replace traditional plastics across key panels, paired with recycled textile seats and responsibly sourced leather options. A large central portrait touchscreen controls the majority of vehicle functions through a native Android Automotive OS interface. Because there is no rear window glass, the high-definition digital rear-view mirror displays a wide-angle live feed from the external camera. The dedicated electric architecture ensures a completely flat floor, delivering executive-level legroom for rear passengers.

Performance & Powertrains
Every version of the Polestar 5 utilizes an 800V electrical architecture and a large 112 kWh battery pack paired with a dual-motor AWD system. The Dual Motor model produces 738 hp and 812 Nm of torque. It completes 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and offers a range of up to 421 miles. The Performance version increases the output to 872 hp and 1,015 Nm of torque, dropping the 0-62 mph acceleration time to 3.2 seconds. The range is rated at up to 346 miles due to standard 22-inch alloy wheels and performance-focused tuning. The 800V architecture enables DC rapid charging at speeds up to 350 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% battery recharge in roughly 22 minutes.
Practicality
Despite its sleek grand tourer profile, the Polestar 5 offers practical daily usability. Removing the rear window allows the structural rear header beam to move further back, giving generous headroom for rear occupants despite the sweeping roofline. Luggage capacity sits at 365 litres in the main boot, expanding to 1,128 litres with the rear seats folded down. A 62-litre frunk provides dedicated storage for charging cables.
Buying
The Polestar 5 is priced from £89,500 for the Dual Motor Launch Edition and comes fully equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels, four-piston Brembo brakes, adaptive air suspension, panoramic glass roof, and the full suite of Pilot Assist safety technologies. The Performance Launch Edition starts at £104,900, adding the upgraded 872 hp powertrain, 22-inch forged alloy wheels, gold Brembo brake calipers, chassis tuning by Polestar Engineered, and an upgraded premium audio system. The EV Hub recommended configuration is the standard Dual Motor Launch Edition at £89,500 as it delivers explosive acceleration with 0-62 mph in under 4 seconds, while retaining the maximum range of 421 miles and full 350 kW charging capabilities without the significant price jump or ride-firmness compromise of the larger 22-inch wheels.
