Overview

The Citroën ë-Berlingo is a highly versatile, van-based EV available in two distinct configurations: the commercial ë-Berlingo Van and the ë-Berlingo Passenger MPV. It addresses both the commercial light goods sector and the practical family transport market. Built on the EMP2 platform, it directly rivals siblings like the Vauxhall Combo Electric and Peugeot E-Partner, alongside other competitors like the Renault Kangoo E-Tech. It positions itself as a budget-friendly, maximum-utility choice for urban tradespeople and space-prioritising families.

Design

Both variants share an updated, more assertive front that showcases the revised oval Citroën logo centered within a minimalist black grille. It has high-set, blocky LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights that sit above a rugged-looking front bumper. The silhouette remains boxy and upright to maximise interior space. Tinted glass, contrasting side rubbing strips, and functional sliding doors characterise the sides. While the Enterprise panel van uses 16-inch grey steel wheels with half hubcaps and black plastic bumpers for durability, higher-tier passenger specifications elevate that with 17-inch 'Topaz' alloy wheels, body-coloured rail covers, and gloss black roof bars.

Interior

The cabin received a major tech overhaul, shifting to a fully digitised environment. Enterprise models feature the My Citroën Play setup, while Enterprise Plus and Passenger models use the premium My Citroën Drive Plus system anchored by a 10-inch central HD colour touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is accompanied by a crisp 10-inch driver's display and a heated leather steering wheel. Material quality focuses on durable, hard-wearing plastics appropriate for its utilitarian roots, but comfort is elevated by the Citroën Advanced Comfort seats, which feature foam and enhanced lateral support. Storage includes a wide, overhead storage shelf, large door pockets, and a top-box glove compartment.

Performance & Powertrains

The powertrain consists of a front-mounted electric motor delivering 136 bhp and 270 Nm of torque, which drives the front wheels. Energy is supplied by a 52 kWh lithium-ion battery. This configuration delivers a range of up to 212 miles. Drivers can toggle between three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Power. Charging speeds are highly competitive; 100 kW DC rapid charging allows the battery to replenish from 0% to 80% in just under 30 minutes.

Practicality

Practicality remains the primary selling point for both versions, which are offered in standard M and extended XL body lengths. The Enterprise Van configuration comes with the EXTENSO modular folding passenger bench seat, incorporating a load-through bulkhead hatch that extends maximum load length to 3,090 mm in the M and 3,440 mm in the XL, while overall load volume scales from 3.3 to 4.4 cubic metres alongside a maximum electric payload of 781 kg. Access is provided via 60/40 split rear doors that open to 180 degrees. The Passenger MPV variant accommodates five people in M size or up to seven in the XL via two removable third-row seats. The second row features 3 fully independent, sliding, and folding seats equipped with individual ISOFIX mountings. Boot volume under the parcel shelf is a generous 775 litres for the M passenger model and expands to an enormous 4,000 litres of total volume under the roof when the XL seats are folded. Loading is further aided by an opening window built directly into the rear tailgate.

Buying

Pricing for the commercial Citroën ë-Berlingo Van starts from £26,455 in Enterprise Plus trim with the UK Electric Vehicle Grant. The passenger versions require a higher premium, starting at £31,390 for the M Plus. Both versions offer an attractive value proposition given their immense interior volume and reduced running and servicing costs relative to legacy diesel equivalents. The EV Hub recommended configuration for commercial operators is the Van M 52kWh Enterprise Plus. This mid-tier variant strikes the best balance by avoiding the premium of the range-topping trim while upgrading the basic smartphone dock to the 10-inch HD touchscreen, and adding the highly flexible three-front-seat EXTENSO layout with the load-through bulkhead. For family buyers, the ë-Berlingo M Max is the standout recommendation, as it includes the independent second-row seats, the 180-degree reversing camera, and the practical opening tailgate window.
