The Rivian R2 is a mid-size fully electric SUV designed to serve as the American brand's volume-selling global breakthrough model. The styling is instantly recognizable as a Rivian, inheriting signature elements from the flagship R1 family such as the full-width front and rear LED light bars, smooth boxy silhouette, and vertical stadium-shaped headlights. Flush pop-out door handles optimize efficiency, while dark protective wheel arch claddings reinforce its utilitarian character. Ground clearance sits at a generous 244 mm, ensuring steep approach and departure angles for tackling unpaved terrain. The entry variant uses a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 350 hp, achieving 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds with a range of 403 miles. The mid-tier Dual-Motor AWD derivative outputs 450 hp, reducing the 0-60 mph benchmark to 4.6 seconds while slightly reducing the range to 385 miles. DC fast charging capabilities reach up to 210 kW, enabling a 10 to 80% battery top-up in 29 minutes, with vehicle-to-load functionality built in as standard.

Cabin space is enhanced by the flat floor layout, providing generous headroom and over a meter of rear legroom for adult passengers. Carrying capability is exceptionally strong, featuring a total maximum storage volume of over 2,500 liters when exploiting all available compartments. Pricing starts from around £36,000 for the base single-motor specification, climbing towards £39,000 for top-tier Premium trims. Initial deliveries have commenced in North America, with UK deliveries scheduled to follow in 2027 as part of Rivian's European roll-out plan. Standard equipment across the board includes advanced radar and camera sensor suites for high-level autonomous driver assistance, adaptive Matrix LED lighting, over-the-air software updating capability, and access to major fast-charging network protocols.
