Marking a strategic pivot for Volkswagen, it is the first member of the electric ID. line-up to ditch numerical naming in favour of a legacy badge. Built on the MEB+ FWD platform, this supermini delivers an accessible entry point into zero-emission driving while retaining the solid, sensible everyday nature that made its petrol predecessor a global bestseller. Designed to take on compact electric rivals such as the Renault 5 E-Tech, Cupra Raval, and Skoda Epiq, the ID. Polo balances traditional Volkswagen quality with impressive efficiency and tech.
Design
Measuring 4,053 mm in length, 1,816 mm in width, and 1,530 mm in height, the ID. Polo casts a footprint remarkably close to the classic supermini. Clean body surfaces and crisp character lines dominate the exterior design. Up front, a short sloped bonnet leads into sleek headlights reminiscent of larger ID. models, connected by a light bar featuring an illuminated Volkswagen emblem. The side profile reveals hidden rear door handles embedded in the C-pillar for a cleaner silhouette, while the rear inherits a full-width LED light bar and a neatly integrated roof spoiler. Higher trim levels ride on 18-inch alloy wheels and feature IQ. Light LED matrix headlights.
Interior
Inside, Volkswagen has addressed feedback from earlier ID. vehicles by drastically improving ergonomics and material choices. The cabin retains a clean dashboard architecture dominated by a 13-inch central infotainment touchscreen alongside a 10-inch digital driver display. Volkswagen has restored physical buttons for primary climate control and audio functions, alongside standard four-way window switches on the driver's door. Digital customization includes a retro instrument mode that mimics the classic Mk1 Golf's gauge cluster. Premium upholstery options, a floating centre console, and tactile controls elevate the quality across the board.
Performance & Powertrains
The ID. Polo offers two battery capacities and three power outputs at launch, driving the front wheels. The entry-level variant pairs a 37 kWh LFP battery with an 85 kW or 99 kW electric motor, delivering up to 204 miles of range. The long-range variant uses a 52 kWh NMC battery paired to a 155 kW electric motor, achieving an impressive range of up to 282 miles. DC rapid charging tops out at 90 kW for the smaller battery and 105 kW for the larger pack, enabling a 10 to 80% charge in approximately 24 to 30 minutes.
Practicality
Packaging benefits of the dedicated MEB+ platform give the ID. Polo interior space that rivals vehicles from the segment above. Boot capacity is exceptionally generous for a supermini at 441 litres with all five seats in place, expanding to 1,243 litres with the rear seats folded flat. Knee and headroom in the rear outer seats easily accommodate tall passengers, while cabin storage includes a modular centre console, twin cupholders, wireless charging pads, and large door bins.
Buying
Pricing for the ID. Polo starts at £23,945 for the entry-level Life trim paired with the 37 kWh battery and 85 kW motor. Stepping up to the 99 kW motor on the Life trim costs £25,055. The Style trim begins at £28,470, adding 18-inch wheels, LED matrix headlights, ambient cabin lighting, and sports seats. The 52 kWh battery models are priced from £28,330 in Life specification and £31,745 in Style specification.
