Overview

The Kia PV7 Cargo arrives as the ambitious second stage of Kia's dedicated Platform Beyond Vehicle lineup. Unveiled at the IAA Transportation show, this medium panel van and passenger carrier sits directly above the smaller PV5. Designed from the ground up on Kia's specialised PBV electric architecture, the PV7 targets established rivals such as the Ford E-Transit Custom and Volkswagen e-Transporter. By leveraging passenger-car level rapid charging alongside flexible body configurations, Kia aims to revolutionize fleet operations and passenger transport with a ultra-capable, zero-emissions workhorse.

Design

The exterior styling of the Kia PV7 Cargo follows a functional yet modern design focused on maximizing internal volume while retaining a confident, road-presence stance. Characterised by clean lines, a boxy silhouette optimised for interior space, and distinctive geometric daytime running lights, the front end is instantly recognisable. Short overhangs and a long wheelbase ensure maximum cabin space, while sliding side doors provide great passenger access in tight urban areas. The rear features a choice of dual barn doors or a traditional lifting tailgate.

Interior

Inside the cabin, the PV7 departs from conventional van layouts by prioritising ergonomics and advanced digital connectivity. The driving position is upright and commanding, framed by a low dashboard that provides excellent forward visibility. The dashboard hosts a broad dual-screen setup running Android Automotive OS, with fleet management software and an AI assistant. Interior materials are durable, recycled plastics alongside easy-wipe surfaces designed to withstand heavy use. The flat floor drastically improves accessibility, while ample hidden cubby storage, wireless charging pads, and multi-functional fold-flat seating options also improve its usability.

Performance & Powertrains

Underpinned by the flexible 800V E-GMP.S dedicated electric platform, the PV7 is equipped with a front-mounted single electric motor delivering up to 200 kW and 420 Nm of torque, with an AWD dual-motor variant planned for future production. Buyers can select between a 71kWh standard battery and a larger 96kWh Long Range pack. The larger unit achieves a range of up to 286 miles on a single charge. Thanks to its native 800V architecture, the PV7 supports ultra-fast 350 kW DC rapid charging, topping up from 10-80% in roughly 25 minutes. Furthermore, Vehicle-to-Load charging allows the van to power external tools and equipment. To accommodate high payloads, Kia includes a specialized heavy-load driving mode that alters throttle mapping and regenerative braking strength.

Practicality

Designed to tackle rigorous commercial use, the long-wheelbase cargo configuration provides up to 8 cubic meters of load space with the high roof, easily accommodating up to 3 Euro pallets. The flat floor allows for an exceptionally low loading height, making manual loading and fork-lift operations significantly easier. Maximum payload reaches up to 1,200 kg depending on specific body choice and battery. For added flexibility, Kia offers an optional second charging port, placing a it towards the rear to simplify depot plugging without maneuvering tight cables.

Buying

Official pricing and exact trim specifications for the Kia PV7 have not yet been released, but commercial models are expected to start around £35,000 to £45,000 to aggressively position against established medium van rivals. The PV7 Cargo model is scheduled to officially roll out across markets during the second half of 2027. The wider range will eventually expand into 23 distinct variants, including specialized chassis cab derivatives, tippers, and factory-backed conversion options.
